Queerstory London is a new initiative that will explore the rich LGBTQ+ heritage across all the London boroughs. While many famous queer venues and events happen in the centre of London and are well known and remembered, many more local and regional aspects of queer culture in London have been long-forgotten. Through partnerships with London's network of borough archives Queerstory London plans to change that.
We are beginning with content from Southwark Archives and The Feminist Library and are exploring possibilities to work with other collections across the capital. If you would like to help explore the archives in your local area please get in touch.
Please explore our site as it expands. We have a growing gallery of old adverts from LGBTQ+ magazines and newspapers, which will become an index to the past; the 'What's your queer story?' project launched in June 2018 shares handwritten memories by individuals of their LGBTQ+ experience; and our Queerstories blog will comprise regular features on LGBTQ+ heritage sites and events based on content from London's borough archives.
